    rprovine@ganconference.com
    16 Nov 2009 | 1:21 pm
Time is money. It’s an old saying in business but it is also often true. When you have a busy day and are trying to fit in as much activity as possible into a set amount of time, one over-running meeting can throw your whole day out of sync. When that 45 minute meeting is pushing near the one hour mark, you have usually two options. Stay with the meeting, or leave the meeting to salvage the rest of your busy, important day. If you are the person running that ever-extending meeting, your options have just been cut in half. The half you will have is dependant on your audience. Don’t be in…

We often have companies or organizations come to us for a specific need. They want to have a Webinar. They want to do a training class. They want to have more efficient weekly meetings. QuickVisuals does all of this. What they don’t realize is there are so many other ways they will use it. This is one of the benefits of having one service that is so versatile as opposed to having a provider that offers many different version of a WebConferencing service. Once you learn QuickVisuals, you are able to have webinars, training classes, weekly meetings, and so much more all with the same…

QuickVisuals is easy to use when you are in a meeting. That is a great feat in this world of complicated webinar applications. There could be a problem though! No matter how simple a solution might be when you are in the meeting, it wont help if you have a complicated time getting people to meet you in there. While I’ve written before about how simple it is to access a QuickVisuals meeting for your attendees, it is important for you as the meeting organizer to be able to invite those attendees simply and easily. QuickVisuals takes that into account with a simply labeled INVITE link write on…

Projecting the right image for your company is important on the Internet. Anyone can have a good website. It can be hard to tell the difference from an established large company, to a small startup. Outside of the Internet you can go to a company’s location and get a good feel for the kind of company they are. There is no mistaking a national chain retail store for a small sole proprietorship, or new partnership of old friends trying out an idea. On the Internet however, that is not always as apparent. The truth is in the details. When you are joining a company’s webinar, you can tell if…

BT is without peer as a telecom brand. Cosmopolitan and international, they do things with flair and style - and success. They're anything but stodgy. Last night's ribbon-cutting event for their new Customer Experience Center in the airy, transparent design of Renzo Piano's New York Times Building is a case in point. Hanif Lanai, CEO of BT Global Services cut the ribbon to formally open their new "Customer Experience Center" (CEC) for US customers. We were too buzzed distracted in sucking down Heinekens and failed to get that on video, but we did manage to do quickie interviews with BT…

I love this idea to death! A company named LogicMonitor put out a press release advertising "The World's Shortest Webinar." Sure, it's a gimmick, but a fun and novel one. They want to demonstrate how fast their product can be configured, so they say they will just start up, do the configuration in a minute or two, and stop.If only they can carry through on this promise. Unfortunately, my experience with technical product marketing leads me to expect that the actual demonstration will be as quick as advertised, but will be sandwiched between another 20 minutes of…

  • Flash-based Web Conferencing About To Take A Hit?

    12 Nov 2009 | 12:21 pm
Twitter is getting a lot of action today about a CNET article highlighting security concerns with Flash content running on web sites.I'm not a security expert nor a Flash developer, so I won't comment on the technical aspects of the warning. At first glance, it looks like web conferencing applications shouldn't be a problem... The concern is for malicious Flash applications specifically built to be run on their own in a web browser and possibly camouflaged inside other things such as images. But the "shot across the bow" comes near the end of the article where the interviewed…

Anyone who talks to me about web conferencing knows I am a big fan of Adobe Connect Pro. No, I am not on their payroll. I just find the interface incredibly elegant and unlike anything else out there. So it was with great anticipation that I attended a webinar yesterday announcing their new release, 7.5. As the webinar host noted, while a "dot" release, it still provides some pretty good bang for the buck. Now I must first offer the caveat that I haven't yet tested the new functionality but I think you'll agree with me that it is mouth watering. The first concept introduced was…

While most participating still attended the face-to-face option, some connected from across the state (I had one connect from Washington DC while attending a conference) and others from their desks across campus or from home. After Cisco had announced to no longer offer new WebEx MeetMeNow subscriptions, we evaluated their online meeting solution WebEx Meeting Center, which is now available in version 8.5. This tool offers a broad variety of functions and can thus be applied in numerous cases. However, by offering more features the complexity of the tool has grown as well and makes usage less simple and intuitive.

We have made it our rule to not evaluate enterprise online meeting tools but we would nevertheless like to make you aware of RHUB, which we find to be an interesting web conferencing solution. TurboMeeting exists in various versions. In the smallest version two web conferences can take place in parallel with a total of 10 participants. On the upside, TurboMeeting supports a broad range of platforms, e.g. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris/Unix, iPhone. On the downside, neither VoIP nor a telephone conferencing service is integrated. As an enterprise solution RHUB is definitely interesting.

Cisco have announced on their WebEx site that they will no longer be offering new WebEx MeetMeNow subscriptions. As an alternative, Cisco offer WebEx Meeting Center for web meetings, which we already tested in June 2008. Due to the new situation we will evaluate the services again and publish the updated results on our website. As a customer with a regular account we were surprised to find out that Cisco has not provided current customers with information other than what can be found on the website.
